CBD for Managing Anxiety

As sad as it is to hear, anxiety has become a byword of today’s world. With technological advancements come an astronomically fast pace of living, and most people – young and old alike – are having a tougher time catching up and dealing with the changing times.
The medical field hasn’t turned a blind eye to this. In fact, the month of May has been declared universally as Mental Health Awareness Month. With this, people have been looking for ways to manage their anxiety, and more and more have been turning to alternative, more organic methods of treatment. One of the emerging trends is using CBD products.
Anxiety and other Medical Conditions
The American Psychiatric Association identifies anxiety disorder as excessive fear or anxiety from the anticipation of future concerns. When this occurs, a person suffering from this disorder experiences muscle tension and avoidance behavior.
And while fear is a normal emotional response to an immediate threat, people with anxiety disorder avoid situations that trigger or worsen their symptoms, causing them to be reclusive or panic in the midst of a crowd or social gathering.
There are different types of mental conditions that are experienced by millions of people worldwide. These are:
- Anxiety disorders (panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias)
- Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder)
- Personality disorders
- Eating disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Psychotic disorders (schizophrenia)
There is no singular cause for mental disorder, and among these cluster of identified conditions, anxiety disorder is the most common mental condition among both genders.
Applying CBD Oil to Manage Anxiety
CBD is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. It has been proven by client testimonials to aid in reducing the effects or symptoms of anxiety, often with mild and manageable side effects.
Recent studies have shown that the use of CBD has been successful in reducing symptoms of social anxiety, which is a common trigger with people suffering from anxiety disorder. Taking CBD soothes patients and even alters their reaction towards their anxious episodes..
CBD Oil is also great for panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Because of this, many patients that have experience taking CBD products see it as a viable alternative or even primary medication to anxiety and other related mental conditions. It can even serve as a supplement to other natural means of treatment for managing mental health. Doing something as simple as diffusing essential oils, like lavender, in a room can help manage an anxious person.
Increase Mental Health Awareness
The World Health Organization has put mental health on the forefront, recognizing it as a “fundamental component of health” and that “recognition of mental disorders and awareness about its importance is limited,” hence the need to make more people more aware of it.
It is not just lack of awareness that needs to be battled with but the stigma that comes with people who are suffering from mental anguish and disorders. Psychology students and experts would even recommend treating mental disorder at the onset or even while it is not yet full-blown, and this can be achieved by going into therapy and having a mental health management routine.
There are now many available methods for preventing, managing and treating anxiety. Therapy and counselling are still the most widely recommended treatments, followed by carefully prescribed and administered medicinal antidotes. Patients have also been seeking alternative and non-invasive methods of managing anxiety such as taking CBD products that help relax patients. But in any case, nothing beats the positive impact of a loving and supportive community – be it friends, family or fellow survivors of mental health disorder.
